Make It a Day: Why Fitzroy + Deep End Pizza = Your Perfect Melbourne Adventure
Why Fitzroy is Worth the Journey
By Hostess Kate
Hi there! I'm Kate, the hostess at Deep End Pizza. My husband Chef Paul and I have been locals here in Fitzroy for over 10 years. I don't drive, so I walk everywhere – which means I know every shortcut, every decent spot, and exactly how to zip around Fitzroy without wasting time. When people ask me about visiting Deep End, I always say the same thing – come for Paul's amazing American pizzas (seriously, they're incredible), but make a proper day of it while you're here. I know this neighbourhood like the back of my hand, so let me tell you exactly how to have the best time without any fuss.
Three Easy Ways to Do Fitzroy Right
With the Kids (Keep It Simple, Keep Them Happy)

Morning: Start at Melbourne Museum – easy 15-minute walk from us through Carlton Gardens. The kids love the dinosaurs and there's always something hands-on to keep them busy.
It's big enough that you won't feel rushed, and honestly, the adults enjoy it too. Plus the walk through the gardens is nice.
Lunch: Come to Deep End around midday. Get the Detroit-Style – it's basically the world's best cheesy bread and I've never met a kid who didn't demolish it. Paul loves watching little ones try proper American pizza.
Order extra – trust me, you'll want it for dinner at home tonight.
Afternoon: Rose Street Market on weekends – it's this lovely little artists' market where local makers sell handmade stuff. The kids love watching people paint and make jewelry, plus there's usually someone doing face painting or balloon animals. It's small enough that you won't lose anyone, and the artists are always happy to chat about what they're doing.

Afternoon: Do the street art thing – it's actually pretty good around here and changes all the time. If you need help knowing where the cool stuff is I'd recommend hitting up Blender Studios (this crew is super cool) and their Fitzroy Street Art Tours.
Pre-dinner drinks: The Punters Club is our local – good beer, no fuss and they have an awesome live music scene.
Naked For Satan for that iconic roof top view of Fitzroy and the CBD.
Dinner: Deep End Pizza – this is where you go big. Chef Paul's Chicago Tavern Style doesn't exist anywhere else in Australia, so get that. Or share a New Haven Style – it's massive and Paul's hometown specialty. The Chicago Deep Dish takes 40 minutes to cook, so plan accordingly.
After: Live music at The Evelyn or The Night Cat (iconic Fitzroy institution) Check what's on first – sometimes they have some pretty cool stuff and will be sold out.
Kick Ons: Can't beat The Black Cat for super late cocktails. Or head to Milney's - it's only known by locals (no website). Brilliant cocktails, great beer garden and you'll most likely see some Deep End crew there for knock offs. Just look for the green light near the door.

Afternoon: Shop Brunswick Street if that's your thing – there's vintage stuff, records, whatever. Don't feel like you have to do everything.
Drinks: Little Hop for some intimate margarita's, or Naked For Satan for the view. Both work.
Dinner: Deep End – share the New Haven Style (Paul's childhood pizza from Connecticut) or go crazy with the Chicago Deep Dish. Both are perfect for sharing and actually talking to each other.
After: Pidapipó Laboratorio for gelato if you've got room, or just walk around – Fitzroy's nice at night.
Kick Ons: For intimate post dinner cocktails head to Milney's - it's only known by locals (no website). Brilliant cocktails, great beer garden and you'll most likely see some Deep End crew there for knock offs. Just look for the green light near the door.
Fitzroy's got enough going on to keep you happy for a day, Deep End's got the best American pizza in Australia, and we'll look after you properly. No fuss, no pretense, just a good time in our neighbourhood.
